What is Collected

Focus Driving School collects your personal information when you use the website and communicate by email or phone. This information can include your name, contact information, phone numbers and payment information.

We may also collect non-personal information such as usage as your IP address, browser version, operating system which may be released in anonymous form such as a report publishing our website usage trends.

Any credit card details are processed securely in a PCI compliant payment gateway using a secure HTTPS internet connection.

Like most websites, Focus Driving School uses cookies to store a user's website preferences. If you do not wish to have cookies placed on your computer, you should set your browser to refuse cookies before using our website, with the drawback that certain features will not function properly without the aid of cookies.

How it is used

The personal information that is collected to provide is for billing, identification, authentication, service improvement, research and website development.

Focus Driving School will not share your personal information to anyone except to provide the requested services, develop our products, protect our rights, assist with a lawful investigation, comply with the law, or to contact you.

Some third party service providers such as website hosts, payment service providers and backup service providers may have access to personal information held by us that a) need to know that information in order to process it on behalf of Focus Driving School or to provide services available at the Focus Driving School website and b) have agreed not to disclose it to others.

Aggregated non-personal data is collected by Focus Driving School may be shared with third parties in order to improve the Focus Driving School website.

Training Records

Your training records will be retained for 12 months as required by NZTA and under the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999.
NZTA-approved courses must be recorded for 12 months after completion of your lessons.

Training records are a reflection of the instructor's professional opinion of the development of your driving skills journey. They do not reflect a pass/fail or ability to pass a VTNZ driver’s test.

The trainee can request confirmation that personal information is being held by the training agency and can access that information at any time.

Trainee sponsors can only request a copy of the training plan.

The Privacy Act 2020 limits who has access to trainee records.

Collecting Information

We collect personal information from you, including but not limited to your:

  • Your licence number, expiry date, class, and type

The information we collect is the information you choose to give us using our website and services. We only use this information for the purpose of our driver training school. When you provide us with information, please carefully read the privacy statement.

Sharing Information

We collect your personal information to:

  • Comply with NZTA (New Zealand Transport Authority) requirements — specifically Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999.
  • NZTA may use these records as part of an audit for quality assurance.

Besides our staff, we share this information with:

  • NZTA on requests that to comply with the 12-month retention requirement.
  • If you choose not to bring your licence to each lesson and show it to the instructor at the beginning of each lesson, we will be unable to proceed with the lesson.

The public has no right of access to your training records.

Security and Destruction

  • We keep your information safe by storing it in encrypted files and only allowing certain staff to access it.
  • We keep your information for 12 months from the completion of your last lesson, at which point we securely destroy it by securely erasing digital files.
  • You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong. If you’d like to ask for a copy of your information or to have it corrected, please contact us at focusdrivingschool.co.nz.

Social Media

Focus Driving School may tag you in a photo on Social Media or include your Facebook profile photo if you leave a testimonial. You can request for photo to not be displayed or shared.

Business Transfers

If Focus Driving School was acquired, or in the unlikely event that it goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of Focus Driving School may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this policy.
